UFC Fighter Fired for Huge Weight Miss Ahead of Debut

Sports News

A scheduled bout for UFC 317 was cancelled after a fighter was released from the promotion just one day before the event, following a significant weigh-in miss.

While the main card fighters like Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira successfully hit their required weights, the opening fight of the night encountered unexpected issues at the weigh-ins on Friday.

As a result of this last-minute development, a middleweight fighter set to make his first appearance for the UFC was promptly released by the organization.

Debut Fighter Cut After Missing Weight by 10 Pounds

UFC 317 was initially planned to begin with a fight between undefeated fighters Christopher Ewert (7-0) and Jackson McVey (6-0). McVey was originally matched against Sedriques Dumas, but a legal matter led to Dumas`s withdrawal earlier in the week, resulting in Ewert stepping in on short notice for the International Fight Week event.

While Jackson McVey successfully weighed in at 185lbs, Christopher Ewert did not appear on the scale. According to commentator Dan Hellie during the official weigh-in broadcast, Ewert was 10 pounds over the middleweight limit, preventing him from weighing in.

Subsequently, UFC commentator Jon Anik announced that due to the substantial weight miss, Christopher Ewert had been released from the UFC roster.
