Sean Brady achieved the biggest win of his career on Saturday by defeating Leon Edwards, marking Edwards` first submission loss in the UFC.
Both fighters entered the UFC London event aiming to climb back into title contention for a potential rematch with champion Belal Muhammad.
Concerns about a possible staph infection for Edwards surfaced before the fight, but he dismissed these rumors.
Edwards, returning after losing his title to Muhammad at UFC 304, expressed his determination to defeat Brady and regain title contention. However, Brady suggested Edwards might be underestimating him.
Joe Rogan Comments on Brady’s Victory Over Edwards
Brady`s assessment proved accurate as Edwards struggled against Brady`s grappling during their fight.
Despite Edwards` recent fights being against grapplers, preparing him for Brady`s style, he was overwhelmed from the start.
Brady dominated for three rounds and then secured a guillotine choke in the fourth, forcing Edwards to tap out and handing him his first UFC stoppage loss.
Joe Rogan, who has often supported Edwards, was critical during the fight. He questioned Edwards` decision to attempt a takedown in the third round, which allowed Brady to gain control.
“Leon shoots for a takedown, that’s crazy… horrible idea,” Rogan commented during his Fight Companion broadcast.
Rogan was highly impressed by Brady`s finish, exclaiming repeatedly during the submission sequence.
“He tapped! Wow! Sean Brady… what a performance, a shutout against one of the best… unbelievable man, I’m super impressed,” Rogan added.
Belal Muhammad Reacts to Brady’s Win
Belal Muhammad, preparing to defend his title, watched the fight and reacted to Brady`s victory over Edwards.
Muhammad had previously predicted Brady would win, possibly influenced by his rivalry with Edwards.
Following the fight, Muhammad mocked Edwards, continuing their ongoing feud.
Brady hopes this win will earn him a title shot, but Shavkat Rakhmonov is also a strong contender in the welterweight division.
