Four-year-old Poppy McIlroy, daughter of Rory McIlroy, captivated the crowd at the Masters Par 3 contest on Wednesday with a remarkable 25-foot downhill putt.
Expectations were low as Poppy approached the ball on the ninth green, holding her putter in one hand. However, she surprised everyone by tapping the ball, watching it roll and curve perfectly towards the hole.
As the ball dropped into the hole, Rory McIlroy reacted with astonishment, throwing his hands up in the air, while Poppy celebrated with a heartwarming hug from her father.
“It`s wonderful to conclude the major championship preparations with such an enjoyable afternoon,” McIlroy told reporters, noting the long wait since the last major.
“If you`re not prepared by this point, you`re unlikely to be. Let`s enjoy this, go home, have dinner, and relax before Thursday,” he added, looking ahead to the Masters tournament.
McIlroy is considered a top contender for this year`s Masters, commencing on Thursday. He is once again seeking to win the coveted green jacket and become only the sixth golfer to achieve a career Grand Slam.
