Ronda Rousey is back in the gym honing the skills that once won her an Olympic medal.
After securing a bronze medal in judo at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Rousey, nicknamed ‘Rowdy’, transitioned to mixed martial arts (MMA) and achieved legendary status.
The first-ever UFC women`s bantamweight champion retired from MMA in 2016 after suffering a knockout defeat in 48 seconds to Amanda Nunes. This loss came a year after Holly Holm ended her undefeated 12-0 MMA record with a head kick.
Recently, Ronda Rousey has ignited rumors of a potential return to fighting by sharing videos of her training sessions on social media.
Ronda Rousey Still Has Her Judo Skills
Ronda Rousey recently reunited with a former UFC opponent whom she defeated in just 14 seconds. She also gave fans a glimpse of the armbar submission technique that propelled her to stardom.
On Saturday, the 38-year-old athlete demonstrated another of her signature moves with a different training partner.
Rousey executed a judo throw, sending her teammate airborne, proving that she hasn`t lost her touch.
“First throws with @ranawillink on the crash pad now that my ligaments are officially tightened back up,” she wrote in the caption of her post.
“Good to know that the years of countless repetition are still paying off and they still got that whip to ‘em #MOMtage.”
Is Ronda Rousey Considering a Comeback?
Earlier in 2024, Rousey dismissed any possibility of returning to professional fighting, citing health concerns.
The UFC icon revealed that she retired at the age of 29 due to serious concussion issues.
Rousey had sustained numerous concussions before making the decision to end her fighting career prematurely.
Despite persistent fan desires for her return, it remains highly improbable that Rousey will compete in the Octagon again.
The recent training videos are likely just a way for a mother to document her fitness journey after recently giving birth to her second child.
