Former world No. 33 Paolo Lorenzi commented on the failures of top players during the absence of ATP world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Italian is serving a three-month suspension.
“They cannot find consistency. It is very difficult for the strongest players. If you don`t count Sinner, then there really isn`t much difference between everyone else. When they are not in their best shape, they cannot win.
First is Alcaraz, who is very unstable. We expect that he will now take advantage of the chance in connection with Sinner`s absence and become the world number one again – but instead, he has a problem with stability, which needs to be solved quickly.
Others have the same thing. Zverev went to South America to score points, but the conditions there turned out to be difficult.
As for everyone else, I do not see them having a crazy advantage over their competitors. They have many problems. I expected more from Zverev, Alcaraz, and even Novak Djokovic.
Sinner has added too much compared to the rest. To catch up with him, the rest are changing their game, improving it. This, of course, takes time. This is what leads to defeats,” said Lorenzi on SuperTennis TV.
