British number one Cameron Norrie spoke about his performance and the atmosphere after advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon.
In his third-round encounter, Norrie secured a convincing victory over Italian opponent Mattia Bellucci, winning in straight sets with a score of 7/6(5), 6/4, 6/3.
Following the match, Norrie highlighted the significant impact of the spectators. “It`s vital to turn the fans into your advantage,” he stated. “I was drawing energy from the people in the stands. It was clear how much they were enjoying the match.”
Reflecting on the specific timing of the match, he added, “It was Friday night. Obviously, quite a few people had a bit to drink, which was noticeable. They were incredibly supportive, which was lovely.”
“I made an effort to give them reasons to cheer for me, and I believe they sensed that. The fans certainly played a role in my victory.”
Norrie revealed his inspiration for interacting with the crowd: “I was trying to feed off their energy. I`ve seen how Andy Murray does this in his matches,” he commented after his win.
