World No. 60 Joao Fonseca shared his perspective on whether the men`s professional tennis tour aligns with his childhood expectations.
“That’s a tough question. I think it is similar,” Fonseca considered. “Maybe when you watch tennis on TV, you see the top guys enjoying their victories. But it’s not that easy; it’s a gradual process: Futures, Challengers, fighting to break into the Top 100. It’s a long road to the main tournaments.”
“When I watched tennis as a kid, I wanted to be here and thought it would be simple. But no, the journey is long. Fortunately, I went through it quickly, having played some great tournaments, and reached this level already now.”
“It’s a pleasant experience. When you get to these kinds of tournaments, everything is wonderful. Everything is perfectly organized, impeccable: catering, accommodation. When you are breaking through Futures, Challengers, it’s far from ideal. That’s my opinion,” said the 18-year-old Brazilian at a press conference following his defeat in the Miami Masters.
