Jan Blachowicz Hints at Future After UFC London Defeat

Sports News

Jan Blachowicz has spoken out after his recent loss in his first fight since July 2023.

The former light heavyweight champion faced rising contender Carlos Ulberg at UFC London on Saturday night.

Following a cautious fifteen minutes from both fighters, which ended in a face-off, the judges controversially awarded the fight to Ulberg with a unanimous decision (29-28). This victory extended Ulberg`s winning streak to eight.

Current 205lb champion Magomed Ankalaev reacted to the fight suggesting Ulberg deserves a title shot, potentially ahead of others. However, it appears Ulberg will have to wait as a rematch between Ankalaev and Alex Pereira is likely next.

Jan Blachowicz Addresses Retirement Speculation

Blachowicz`s record now stands at only one win in his last five UFC fights.

Such a record would typically suggest retirement for many fighters.

However, the 42-year-old former champion seems determined to continue fighting after UFC London.

On Sunday morning, Blachowicz used a Squid Game-themed video to break his silence after his eleventh MMA defeat.

Calling himself ‘Player 083’ – referencing his birth year – Blachowicz`s caption clearly indicated to fans that he intends to continue competing in the UFC Octagon.

The post read: “Player 083 – still in the game. #LegendaryPolishPower Player 083 – still in the game.”

Jan Blachowicz Aims for Randy Couture’s Record

Retirement was far from Blachowicz`s thoughts leading up to the Ulberg fight.

He even had his sights set on breaking the record for the oldest UFC champion, set by Randy Couture in 2008.

Randy Couture currently holds the record, having lost his heavyweight title to Brock Lesnar at 45 years old.

“Why not? We’ll see,” Blachowicz commented on the possibility of surpassing Couture’s record.

“It was a different era then, and it’s different now.

“I’m a different fighter, but we’ll see. Maybe.”
