Is Michael Chandler Facing the End of His MMA Journey at UFC 314?

Sports News

According to a former fighter, UFC 314 could mark the end of Michael Chandler`s time in mixed martial arts.

Chandler, a former three-time Bellator lightweight champion, made a spectacular entry into the UFC in January 2020, knocking out Dan Hooker in just 150 seconds. However, his subsequent performances in the Octagon have been less successful.

Having lost four of his last five matches against top lightweight contenders, Michael Chandler is now set to face Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314 in Miami. This fight is perceived as a significant step down in competition for Chandler.

Will Michael Chandler Retire After UFC 314?

Matt Brown, a UFC welterweight veteran who retired last May, suggests Chandler should contemplate retiring from the sport if he is defeated at UFC 314.

Brown stated in an interview with MMA Fighting that this fight seems like a “do-or-die” situation for Chandler. He referenced Chandler`s previous statements indicating that he is in UFC to win titles, not just to earn money.

Brown believes Chandler has options outside of fighting, regardless of the outcome of UFC 314. He highlighted Chandler`s strong personal brand and popularity, suggesting he could excel as a commentator, analyst, or podcast host. Brown emphasized that Chandler possesses the voice and personality for such roles and his brand remains valuable.

However, Brown reiterated that a loss to Paddy Pimblett should prompt Chandler to seriously consider his post-fighting career path.

Paddy Pimblett Predicts a Quick Victory at UFC 314

Pimblett intends to push Chandler towards retirement within the first two rounds of their fight.

In a recent joint interview to promote UFC 314, Pimblett predicted a swift victory in what he considers his most significant fight to date.

“I think I’m gonna finish Mike in two rounds,” Pimblett stated, expressing confidence in his ability to end the fight both on the feet and on the ground. He anticipates catching Chandler with a strike or securing a submission, and confidently asserted his belief that he will not lose.
