Following their match at Wimbledon, Italian tennis veteran Fabio Fognini approached world number two Carlos Alcaraz with a special request. Fognini, who was defeated by the young Spaniard in a five-set thriller (5/7, 7/6(5), 5/7, 6/2, 1/6), asked Alcaraz for his playing shirt.
`Charlie, I need your shirt for Federico.`
Ahead of the match, Fognini had shared a heartwarming anecdote about his eight-year-old son, who is a big fan of Alcaraz. He recounted his son`s enthusiastic reaction upon seeing the Wimbledon draw:
“When the draw came out, my son called me and said, `Dad, did you see? You`re playing Carlitos.` I said yes, and asked if he wanted to come. He replied, `Yes, yes, yes, I`ll come, I`ll come.` And Flavia [Pennetta] with our daughter. When my son saw [Alcaraz], I told him, `Don`t greet him, that`s my opponent tomorrow.` And he got upset.”
