The TGL playoff match between The Bay Golf Club and Atlanta Drive Golf Club took place on Tuesday night, continuing the excitement of the postseason.
The Bay GC, who were seeded second, had previously lost their top seed after a defeat to Los Angeles Golf Club on March 3. Atlanta Drive GC, the third seed, had only lost one game this season before this match, which was against The Bay on February 17.
Representing The Bay were golfers Min Woo Lee, Ludvig Åberg, and Shane Lowry, with Wyndham Clark sitting out. Atlanta`s team consisted of Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay, while Lucas Glover was inactive.
In the match, Atlanta secured a 9-3 victory over The Bay. With this win, Atlanta will now compete against New York GC in the finals. The final series will be a best-of-three format, scheduled for March 24th and 25th.
Here are some of the standout moments from Tuesday`s TGL playoff game.
Min Woo Lee`s Powerful Drive
Continuing his regular season form as the league leader in driving distance and speed, Min Woo Lee impressed with his first drive of the night. He powerfully hit the ball 328 yards, reaching a top speed of 190 mph.
Celebrities Attend Playoff Golf
The TGL semifinal match on Tuesday attracted numerous celebrities. Among the attendees were former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, former Atlanta Braves player Chipper Jones, golfer Rory McIlroy, and Atlanta Falcons players Michael Penix Jr. and Kyle Pitts.
Lowry`s Close Bunker Shot
Shane Lowry almost scored par on Hole 8 with an impressive bunker shot. His 40-foot chip shot from the bunker was accurately aimed but narrowly missed going into the hole, veering slightly right at the last moment.
Justin Thomas`s Lucky Bounce on Hole 10
Justin Thomas experienced a moment of luck on Hole 10. His second shot was heading out of bounds but bounced back into play off a restricted area. Rory McIlroy, who was commentating, described it as `the luckiest bounce` he had ever witnessed on air.
Cantlay`s Near Hole-in-One Secures Victory
Facing elimination, The Bay doubled the point value of Hole 12 in a final effort. However, Patrick Cantlay responded strongly for Atlanta, hitting a shot that nearly resulted in a hole-in-one.
Cantlay`s ball landed just under four feet from the hole. To guarantee their win, Atlanta also used their final point multiplier, making the hole worth three points. Cantlay then made the subsequent putt, securing the victory for Atlanta.
