World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz, a four-time Grand Slam champion, shared his perspective on his rivalry with the world No. 1, Italian Jannik Sinner.
“Sinner is the best player in the world, even though he was out for three months. He plays well in every tournament and wins almost every match,” stated Alcaraz. He emphasized the heightened focus required when facing Sinner, explaining, “If you don`t bring your A-game, it`s impossible to beat him. He has an aura about him. I wouldn`t say I feel the same way as Rafa and Roger did playing each other, but I definitely sense a different energy when I play Jannik.”
Alcaraz noted that attention is now shifting towards Paris. “Everyone is focused on Roland Garros. Winning against Jannik, winning in Rome… these factors give me a lot of confidence. I always say the final isn`t about playing for the title, but winning it. I`m very happy,” he said. He plans to celebrate the moment with his family, team, and friends from home before taking a few days to rest and fully appreciate his accomplishments. “Acknowledging what I`ve achieved is also important,” he added, before shifting his focus entirely to Roland Garros.
Carlos also reflected on his current emotional state this season. “Honestly, I feel completely different now. My approach to matches is different, which I`m very proud of,” he revealed. “I`ve found the right path again. Before, I used to get very nervous during matches and couldn`t control my emotions as well as I do now. I was focused too much on results, on having to win. Now, I approach things completely differently. I`m happy and proud of the life I`m living.”
