This week, the PGA Tour features its unique team event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, held at TPC Louisiana. It stands as the only official team competition on the tour schedule.
Headlining the field of 160 players competing in two-man teams are Ryder Cup partners Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. They return as defending champions, having won last year`s event in a playoff against Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer.
For McIlroy, this marks his first competition appearance since his victory at the 2025 Masters, where he completed the career Grand Slam.
Following 36 holes, the top 33 teams (including ties) will advance to the weekend. The tournament utilizes a format of two rounds of foursomes (alternate shot) and two rounds of four-ball (best ball) to determine the champions. The victorious pair will each receive $1,329,400 and 400 FedEx Cup points.
Since adopting the two-man team format in 2017, the event has often seen players partner based on shared backgrounds like nationality, college, or hometown. The current tournament scoring record is held by Nick Hardy and Davis Riley, who shot 30-under 258 in 2023.
